The Sony SDX1-CL was designed to be used in conjunction with AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) Cartridges. This cleaning cartridge, the Sony SDX1-CL is for use with AIT-1, AIT-2 and AIT-3 tape drives. The SDX1-CL is not for use with AIT-4 tape drives. However the SDX1-CL can be used with AIT Turbo drives. Sony does not recommend overly-frequent use of the SDX1-CL because AIT drives have a self-cleaning mechanism, however it does recommend that a cleaning cartridge be used whenever the cleaning lamp lights up on you AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) drive. Cleaning cartridges, such as the SDX1-CL, are necessary if you want to keep your drive running and if you to prolong its life.
