The QGD225ME-2 is an 8mm tape by Sony that allows you to store 60 GB (native) and 150 GB (compressed) data on a single cartridge. The transfer rate for this 8mm tape is 12 MB/s (native) and 30 MB/s (compressed) thanks to the Mammoth 2’s drive compression. Sony’s AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) technology is used as the formulation for this tape and allows for greater reliability and maximizes recording performance. Another feature of the QGD225ME-2 is that it features Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) Coating which protects the tape with a smooth coating 20-times harder than metal oxides. This 8mm tape also features the SmartClean feature (a 2 meter length of cleaning material) that is used whenever the drive detects the need for it.
