Currently, the only projector we have for sale is the Mitsubishi WD2000U DLP projector. DLP (Digital Light Processing) is a technology that was originally produced in 1987 by Texas Instruments. The image in DLP projectors is created through Digital Mirror Devices (also known as DMDs) which are microscopically small mirrors laid out in a matrix on a semiconductor chip. Each mirror represents one pixel in the projected image. Hence the number of mirrors in a DLP projector’s DMD corresponds to the resolution of its projected image, for example 1024x768, 1280x720, etc. There are two types of DLP projectors, single-chip and three-ship projectors. The difference being that where a single-chip projector uses a single chip along with a spinning color wheel to produce a color image, the three-chip DLP projector uses a prism to split light and then each primary color is then routed to its own DMD chip then recombined and routed out through the lens. This allows DLP projectors with three-chips to produce finer gradations of shade and color and it has been suggested at DLP.com that three-chip DLP chips can produce approximately 35 trillion colors which others conjecture is more than the human eye can see.
