The LTX800G is the latest in line of LTO tape media from Sony. The Sony LTX800G is an LTO-4 tape cartridge that has a capacity of 800 GB native (meaning uncompressed) and 1.6 TB compressed. Data can be transferred to and from the LTX800G at a native rate of 120 MB/s and a compressed rate of 240 MB/s. The LTX800G has a tape of length 820 meters and the tape formulation is MP (Metal Particle). The LTX800G features an 8 Kb non-contact LTO-CM module, double the capacity of LTO-CM over previous generations.

LTO4 achieves massive storage capacity by increasing recording tracks (LTO3: 704 -> LTO4: 896) by utilizing a thinner and longer length tape.

LTO4 is manufactured with a newly developed fine magnetic particles and a higher thermal stability binder. In order to maximize performance, an improved dispersing technology for the finer magnetic particles was introduced.

LTO4 also adopts a newly developed thin-layer coating technology and a smoother surface coating process. This allows the LTO4 cartridge to have a low error rate and stable output under various operating conditions.

LTO4 stable magnetic servo signal writing technology and newly-developed high-rigid and high-accuracy cartridge molding technology, offers the higher reliability required by data backup systems by achieving stable write/read characteristics.
