The number of write elements in the read/write head has also been doubled. With the increased transfer rate LTO 3 drives can write data faster than most hard disk drives and even its minimum data streaming rate is higher than most HDDs. The W.O.R.M (Write Once Read Many) feature was also introduced in LTO 3 tape backup drives, which helps avoid accidental erasure of data. This is mostly useful in legal record keeping. Like all other LTO drives, the LTO 3 drives are also backward compatible to some extent.
