The Sony DTF-1 (Digital Tape Format) GW-240S tape was introduced in 1997. The GW-240S has a native storage capacity of 12 GB and a compressed storage capacity of 24 GB. The Sony GW-240S has a tape of length 241 meters and the technology used allows only minimal tape shrinkage, thereby reduces the GW-240S tape’s deformation over time. This means that you get precise and stable long-term tracking. A lubricant is used to protect the tape surface, controlling the amount of friction and therefore prolonging the head life of your DTF tape drive. The Sony GW-240S uses a HAD (High density Alloy) that combined with a uniform protective layer enhances archival characteristics.
