The DLT VS-1 tape was released in 2003. With a capacity of 80GB native and 160 GB compressed, DLT VS1 tapes also comes with the DLTSage technology which is a revolutionary data management solution that allows users to manage and prevent system problems according to the makers. With a DLT V4 drive, the native capacity of DLT-VS 1 tape goes up to 160 GB native and 320 GB compressed with a transfer rate of up to 10 MB/s (native). DLT VS-1 tapes also use PRML as its coding channel and have a total weight of 282g (with case). These tapes were developed in partnership with Quantum, the linear tape market leader, and hence had the experience and quality of both Sony and Quantum for their development.
