DLT Tapes Back to Top

DLT (Digital Linear Tape) technology was developed by Digital Equipment Corporation in the early 1980’s. Quantum Corporation acquired the disk and tape divisions of Digital Equipment Corporation and within the tape division the DLT tape technology, its licenses and trademark in 1994. The initial TK50 drive could store only 94 MB of data however today through technological upgrades we now have DLT tapes ranging from 10 to 800 GB in native capacity. The data on a DLT tape is stored in a linear format with multiple tracks on a half-inch wide tape. The DLT tape is a metal particle tape. Media can last up to 30 years under specified environmental conditions; however DLT tapes can be damaged by mishandling (dropping, etc). DLT tapes are ideal for small to medium LAN networks and also work well for hierarchal storage management applications, workstations and midrange systems. We sell DLT tape media by Fuji, HP, Sony, Maxell, IBM, Imation, Quantum and Verbatim. DLT tape products and versions available at Tape4Backup are: DLT-III, DLT-III XT, DLT-IV, DLT-VS1, SDLT, DLT Barcode Labels, DLT cleaning cartridge and DLT Empty Cases.
