DLT III tapes were first released in 1989 with a capacity of 2.6 GB. Later versions had increased capacity of up to 10 GB. DLT III tape media is compatible with DLT260/600 and DLT2000/2000XT/4000/7000 tape drives. Although DLT III was the dominant form of tape backup for most of the 90’s, it has now been displaced through the emergence of LTO and SAIT tapes.
