The DDS 5 or DAT72 format was developed by HP and Certance. DDS 5 uses MP++++ technology and an increased tape length to get an 80% capacity boost over DDS 4. It has a tape length of 170m and a capacity of 36 GB uncompressed. Similar to DDS 4, DAT72 also has a transfer rate of 3.2 MB/s. As it has the same form factor as DDS 3 and DDS 4 and is backwards compatible with both.
