Whereas DDS2 was released 4 years after the launch of DDS1, it took 3 years for DDS3 to be launched after DDS 2 in 1996. DDS 3 had a tape length of 125 meters and a capacity of 12 GB native, triple the capacity of DDS 2 tapes. Also, DDS3 has an improved transfer rate of 1.1 MB/s as compared to 0.6 MB/s of the previous generations. PRML (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) was also introduced in DDS 3 which eliminates electronic noise so that there is cleaner data recording.
