The HP C7974W is an LTO tape cartridge. More importantly, the C7974W is an LTO-4 tape cartridge that has W.O.R.M (Write Once Read Many) functionality. What this means is that any data written on the C7974W tape cannot be erased but may be added too. The C7974W has an 800 GB native capacity and a 1.6 TB (1 TB = 1000 GB) compressed capacity. The C7974W also features an LTO-CM (Linear Tape Open – Cartridge Memory) module which allows storage of cartridge related data such as error logs and usage history. An LTO-CM reader is required to read and present this data in a useful manner. Most LTO tape drives come equipped with such readers however for those that don’t, an external reader is also available.
