The IBM 18P7538 is an IBM Total Storage enterprise tape cartridge. Unlike the 18P7534, the IBM 18P7538 3592 tape cartridge is a WORM (Write Once Read Many) tape cartridge. However, IBM 18P7538 tape media do have three types (same ones as 18P7534 tapes) and consequently have similar capacities native and compressed. With an estimated archival life of up to 30 years, the 18P7538 tape media is durable enough to stand 300 full passes or 40,000 cycles. A most important feature for 18P7534 tape media is the cartridge memory which records usage and performance statistics which can be used by the IBM Statistical Analysis and Reporting System (SARS) to determine whether the 18P7534 tape media is degrading over time and needs to be replaced.
