The Maxell LTO 183804 is a cleaning cartridge that is compatible with LTO-1, LTO-2, LTO-3 and LTO-3 WORM tape drives and auto-loaders. The manufacturer’s claim that one Maxell LTO 183804 cleaning tape can be used for more than 50 cleaning passes. However the manufacturer also states that the number of cleanings that the Maxell 183804 can actually do is drive dependent. Regular use of a cleaning tape such as the Maxell 183804 should be made if you wish to keep your tape drive performing at its best. Cleaning tapes are recommended because over time dust and grime settle on your tape drive’s head causing it to perform below par and in extreme cases to not be able to read/write tapes and sometimes become damaged.
