The Maxell 183715 is an SDLT II tape by virtue of the fact that is has been qualified by Quantum to bear the SDLT logo. With a native capacity of 300 GB, the Maxell 183715 has a compressed capacity of 600 GB. The Maxell 183715 has a tape of length 630 meters and an easily recognizable blue colored cartridge. A key feature of the Maxell 183715 is the newly developed Neo SMART (Super Maximum capacity Advanced Reliability Tape) technology which as the name suggests provides higher capacity as well as better reliability. This is done by introducing improved magnetic particles, new coating and dispersion techniques on the 183715. The Maxell 183715 therefore is rated at 1,000,000 passes and has an archival storage period of over 30 years.
