This 8mm tape by Exabyte (product code 00558) is a tape of length 225 meters and has a 60 GB native capacity. Up to 150 GB worth of data may be stored using data compression on this 8mm tape. The 00558 is for use with Mammoth 2 (M2) tape drives and one of the more important features of this tape cartridge is that it has a 2 meters worth of cleaning material at the beginning of the tape (SmartClean technology). The Mammoth 2 tape drive is capable of recognizing when the read/write heads are in need of cleaning and if cleaning is required it will automatically use the 2 meter length at the beginning of the tape to clean the read/write heads. If the Mammoth tape drive is used with the 00558 8mm tape cartridge it is possible that no extra cleaning tape is required.
