The Sun StorageTek 003-3822-01 enterprise tape cartridge has a native tape capacity of up to 40 GB when used with the T9840C tape drive. However when the 003-3822-01 is used with the T9840A or T9840B tape drive the native capacity falls to 20 GB. The tape formulation used is AMP (Advanced Metal Particle) and the substrate used is PEN (Polyethylene Naphthalene). The archival life for the Sun Microsystems 003-3822-01 ranges from 15 to 30 years depending on conditions in which it is stored. The 003-3822-01 is durable for up to 10,000 load/unload cycles. In terms of read/write passes, the 003-3822-01 is capable of enduring up to 361 full read/write passes at a minimum.
